Those in Peril, A Blue Funnel Story

Earlier this month, we were contacted by Miles Averill, whose father Ian Cook, has recently written a book about his time at sea, entitled ‘Those in Peril, a Blue Funnel Story’. Here’s what Miles had to say.

“My father in New Zealand has written a book called ‘Those In Peril’ and which is now published in New Zealand by a company called Willson Scott Publishing International, based in Christchurch, NZ. The book is in hard cover and is out for sale in NZ. It is about my father’s 56 year career in the Merchant Navy and as a Harbour pilot, starting during the last year of the 2nd world war in 1944 and onward to 2002. He worked for Britain’s oldest shipping companies, Alfred Holt & Blue Funnel Line, as a Harbour Pilot all around the world. These places included Indonesia, Congo, Burma, Thailand, New York, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and many more countries.”

We thought this was really interesting and Miles kindly enabled us to do a short Skype interview with Ian, which we have uploaded below.

If you would like to purchase a copy of the book, or contact either Miles or Ian, please email milesaverillcollcomms’AT’hotmail.com
